Obituaries

James Lester Pihart, age 83, of Dubuque, IA, left this world surrounded by his loving family on July 5th, after a short battle with cancer. A private family service will be held.  Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque. 

Kristy Ann Monahan, age 51, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on July 6, 2021, at Dubuque Specialty Care, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Kristy’s life, a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1111 Davis Street in Dubuque.  A private family burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Her family and friends will also be invited to a Celebration of Life for Kristy on July 28, 2021.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Kristy’s family.

Alfred W. “Al” Zetzsche, age 74, of Galena, Illinois, completed his earthly journey on July 3, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Al’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Al’s family.

John H. Del Degan, age 64 of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on July 25, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor John’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Barrington Lakes Pavilion, 11197 Lakeview Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, 52003.  All of our family and friends are welcome to join us in friendship and fellowship as we honor the legacy which John has left behind.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving John’s family.

Paul G. Wolfe, 96, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, passed away on June 17, 2021, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster.  To honor Paul’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 101 Church Street in Tennyson, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 2:30 p.m.  A private family graveside service will be held at the St. Andrew’s Cemetery.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Paul’s family. 

Jeffrey H. “Jeff” Weber, age 60, of Dubuque, Iowa, sadly completed his earthly journey suddenly on June 2, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  To honor Jeff’s life, full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion, Post #6, on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1111 Davis Street, in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jeff’s family.

There will be no public visitation.  A private family memorial service will be held at Linwood Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion, Post #6.

Kathy L. Spear, age 64, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on January 22, 2021, at home, with her dear friends by her side.  To honor Kathy’s life, her Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 12, 2021,at the Mines of Spain in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Kathy’s family.

Sandra L. “Sandy” Hurdiss, age 77, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on May 15, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Sandy’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sandy’s family.

She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed! A memorial service will be held at The Tabernacle of Faith Apostolic Church, 801 Garfield Avenue, Dubuque, IA, 52001 on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at noon.

Christopher M. Holl, age 46, of Dubuque, IA, sadly completed his earthly journey suddenly on May 7, 2021, at UnityPoint-Finley Hospital.  To honor Chris’ life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Chris’ family.

Frederick J. “ Fred” Smothers, age 74, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on February 13, 2021, at UnityPoint-Finley Hospital in Dubuque.  To honor Fred’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 19th, 2021, at the Tri-State Community Church, 12937 Derby Grange Road in Dubuque, with Pastor Jack Redmond officiating.  Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Fred’s family.

Sherry L. Flack, age 53, of Hanover, IL, completed her earthly journey, after a courageous 4-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, on April 27, 2021, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Sherry’s life, her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Sherry’s home, 103 Franklin Street in Hanover, where family and friends may gather from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sherry’s family.

John W. Welu, age 68, of Dubuque, Iowa, went home to the Lord on September 16, 2020, at the Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor John’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., at the Eagle View Pavilion in Eagle Point Park, 2601 Shiras Avenue in Dubuque.  A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. to allow his family and friends share their treasured memories together.  Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque at a later date. Nolan Scott Hollaway, age 13, of Guttenberg, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on April 19, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, in the loving arms of his mother.  To honor Nolan’s life, a private family service is being held at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Nolan’s family.

Peter (Pete) A. Esser, age 90, of Platteville, Wisconsin, completed his earthly journey on April 13, 2021, at Edenbrook of Platteville, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Peter’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is serving Peter’s family.

Ruth Mary “Ruthie” Chevalier, age 79, of Dubuque, completed her earthly journey peacefully in her sleep on April 10, 2021, at Sunset Park Place, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Ruthie’s life, a private family burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Ruthie’s family.

Shirley A. Frommelt, age 82, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, completed her earthly journey on April 6, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Shirley’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Shirley’s family.

Joseph E. “Joe” Donahue, age 88, of Dubuque, completed his earthly journey on April 6, 2021, at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital.  To honor Joe’s life, his graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1111 Davis Street in Dubuque, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Joe’s family.

To honor Artie’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road in Dubuque, with Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating.  The family asks that please no flowers and requests privacy during this time.  As Elvis would say, ” TcB” (taking care of business)
