Floyd P. Bennett

Floyd P. Bennett

Floyd P. Bennett, age 70, Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on August 1, 2024, at Dubuque Specialty Care, while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Floyd’s life, a private graveside service will be held at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Floyd’s family.

Floyd was born on January 11, 1954, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Floyd B. and Violet (Baker) Bennett. He was truly blessed to be one of the good one’s in this life and never had a foul word, or complained about anything, even when it would have easily been justified.  Floyd made the world a better place simply by his presence within it and was so simultaneously humble that he would never have even acknowledged that fact in words, thoughts, or actions.  Floyd was naturally gifted in the kitchen and spent his working career as a cook.  He invested over twenty years with Bishop’s Buffet until they closed and then went on to spend another 14 years at the Diamond Jo Casino.  He enjoyed creating delicious meals for others to savor and made countless friends along the way as well.

Floyd was known for his belly laugh and silly jokes for those who were near him most.  His humor was contagious while his timing and delivery were impeccable.  If Floyd was happy, those around him were soon to be also.  He was also a devoted black belt in Tae Kwon Do and spent countless hours as a teacher at the Dubuque Karate Club sharing his skills and knowledge with others.  Floyd was also a devoted uncle who faithfully and patiently waited for the weekend to arrive where you could be sure to find him treating his nieces and nephews out to a movie and treats whenever possible.  His love for games of all sorts, especially cards, was also legendary.  Never taking life too seriously, but always ready for a little friendly competition with anyone who was willing to pull a chair up to the table to test his abilities on any given day.  Simply put, the world is a much lesser place today without Floyd’s light shining around those who knew and loved him.  We will miss him dearly, remember him fondly, and will never forget the positive influence he has been on everyone who crossed his path.  Thank you, Floyd, for keeping life uncomplicated and bringing your best to each day as it presents itself.  May you find peace now in the loving arms of your Savior as we await our eternal reunion in time.

I always will remember Jr as a kind and calming human. The Bennett family was such a big influence on us growing up. I still remember going to aunt Vi’s house and always knew it to be a safe haven for me. Rest in peace! All my best to those left behind.
