Herb was born on July 1, 1934, in Cascade to Jacob and Amanda (Marbach) Quint. Herb left Cascade to serve four years in the Navy as a radio operator. After traveling to Japan and California, he returned to Cascade and worked at John Deere for three years until he moved to Chicago to cheer on his beloved White Sox and attend trade school. Herb came home again to work at Deeres, repair televisions, cut-the-gut, visit East Dubuque and eventually marry Patricia Rea on the morning of New Year’s Eve, 1965. Throughout his life Herb could be found going out to eat on Friday nights, fishing, hunting, woodworking, going to benediction, enjoying Hamm’s, reading, watching baseball, mowing grass, completing crosswords and playing Skipbo. He served a term as Commander for Legion Post #528.
Herb and Patsy, his dedicated wife of 59 years, had three children: Susie (Bob) Irlbeck, Centerville, MN; Sherry (Scott) Manchester, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Mike (Maureen) Quint, Marion, IA. Herb enjoyed watching his children grow to adulthood and raise his eight grandchildren: Justin, Jacob (Torri), and Kayla Irlbeck; Nathan (Katie), Patrick (Morgan Michels), and Alex (Ashley Inmon) Manchester; and Kate and Cole Quint. Herb also has two great-grandchildren: L.J. and Thea Irlbeck.
Herbert was welcomed into heaven by his parents, siblings Al (Anne) Quint, Raymond Quint, Helen (Peter) Dotterweich, Rose (Bub) Leytem; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Kurt and Carol (Dave) Dolphin; and many friends.
